Castel Street Medical Centre is a small practice in Bolsover which is an old mining village in Derbyshire. It has a long history of GP training.

We work across 3 surgeries; the sites are Ashgate Medical Practice, Whittington Medical Centre and Holme Hall Surgery. Registrars will be allocated to our main purpose built site- Ashgate Medical Practice for their training.
We care for the residents of two local nursing homes which a GP will visit bi-weekly. One of our Nurse Practitioners is community based and see’s patients for preventative care, which we have found to be very effective in reducing emergency care.
High priority is placed on excellent clinical care and we always strive for 100% Quality Outcomes Framework achievement by the whole team.
We hold various regular meetings:
Nurse team meetings and clinical meetings bi-weekly
Monthly full team QUEST half day training. We get the opportunity to discuss practice issues, host outside speakers, run in-house teaching and present recent audits.
We also meet for coffee each morning between 11 and 11.30
We operate an extended hour’s surgery Tuesdays 18:30-20:30 and Thursdays 07:00-08:00. We have an Oncall clinic every day to assess the urgent appointment and visit requests.
We have electronic prescribing (EPS), online appointment booking and online access to medical records.

We are an enthusiastic and friendly training practice made up of 3 Partners and 5 Salaried Doctors. We have an ethos of providing high quality personal medical care to our patients but at the same time value our own quality of life.
The practice is based in a purpose built medical centre opened in June 2008, situated in the centre of the small town of Dronfield on the edge of the Peak District. Dronfield is predominantly middle class and serves as dormitory town to Sheffield and Chesterfield.
The practice population is generally mobile, well-educated and receptive to preventative medicine; as a result the practice consistently achieves all targets. However, because the patients are so well informed this does create a high demand on our services. The practice population is relatively stable, at just over 10,000 but we do have a turnover of young families and a high proportion of elderly patients.
We pride ourselves on teamwork and meet daily to discuss referrals, visits and have a general catch up.
