GP Practice Managers

When GP STs are in GP placements, practices host the Registrar and whilst they are employed formally by single Lead Employer St Helens & Knowsley during the post they should abide by the policies and procedures of the practice. Like all staff therefore, the manager of the practice will have an interest and responsibility for the trainee’s status, behaviour and professional development. Whilst practices will inevitably vary in the extent to which overall responsibility and involvement is devolved from the trainer, it is usual for the manager to be involved in the employment checks, induction and relationship between the trainee and the staff. Most practices recognise the manager’s potential for teaching trainees in their particular areas of expertise that also make up part of the GP curriculum.

Please see Lead Employer St Helens & Knowsley’s Shared Services Website https://sharedservices.sthk.nhs.uk/ where you can access lots of useful information such as policies, toolkits and FAQs on ESR, Business Mileage & Expenses, Annual Leave, Attendance Management, Covid-19 etc.
